Hartle died this morning after a long illness at the family home, 605 South Main Street. The funeral service will be held at the Baptist Church Saturday afternoon at 2:30 conducted by Rev. J. A. Bryson, assisted by Rev. M. L. Timbrook. *The Windsor Review, Thursday, January 30, 1941 Mrs. Gussie Hartle With the passing of Mrs. Gussie Hartle, to the great Silent Beyond, Henry County has lost another of its pioneer citizens. Born on her father's farm near Roseland in Springfield Township in Henry County, on the 27th day of December, 1871, the eldest of four children of L.D. Cannon and Laura Cannon, Gussie May Cannon spent her entire life in Henry County and passed away at her home on South Main Street in Windsor on Wednesday, January 22, 1941, at the age of sixty-nine years and twenty-six days. She was married to C.C. Hartle in Springfield Township on the 28th day of February, 1897, where they made their home until they moved to Windsor in 1923, where they have lived for the past seventeen years. In early life, Mrs. Hartle accepted Christ as her savior and united with the Mt. Olivet Baptist Church, where she kept her membership until they moved to Windsor to live. She then transferred her membership to the Windsor Baptist Church, where she has been a devoted and faithful member up to the time of her death. In addition to her husband, C.C. Hartle, she leaves to mourn her passing, one brother, W. H. Cannon, two sisters, Mrs. Allie Jordan and Mrs. Jessie Thomas, two nephews, Orville Cannon and Reavis Jordan and one niece, Irene Jordan. Mrs. Hartle was an unusual woman in many respects, she was generous and charitable, without making a display of her generosity, unknown to the public, in the quiet way. In business her advice and judgment was sought and given to many and during the sixteen years she and her husband operated the general store at Roseland, she was ever ready and active in assisting in the management of the business. About five or six years ago her health began to fail, she has been confined to her bed most of the time for several years and during all of that time she bore her pain and suffering without complaint. Every possible effort was made to relieve her and the tender devotion of her husband was evident to everyone shown in the patient careful and loving manner in which he looked after her every need and want. No husband could have been kinder or shown more interest and attention than Mr. Hartle and while he suffered an irreparable loss, he may have comfort in the realization that he spared neither time, attention, effort nor money in giving her every possible comfort in life. Funeral services were held at the Baptist Church on Saturday, January 25th conducted by her former pastor, Rev. J. A. Bryson, assisted by Rev. M. L. Timbrook and she was laid to rest on the family lot in Laruel Oak Cemetery. Pallbearers were George H. Jackson, A. L. Kelly, Dan McMillen, R. H. Wells, Louis Greife and Ross. E. Feaster.
