John V. Wondercheck, 84, of Fullerton died Saturday, Jan. 22, 2011, at Golden Living Center in Fullerton. John was born July 31, 1926, at Surprise to Arthur Sr. and Rose (Matousek) Wondercheck. On Jan. 7, 1950, he married LaVonne Hinton at Grand Island. Survivors are: wife, LaVonne Wondercheck; son, Jonathan Wondercheck of Fullerton; daughters and sons-in-law, Debby and Frank Bialas of Fullerton and Dierdra and Abel Trevino III of San Antonio, Texas; brothers and sisters-in-law, Alvin Wondercheck of Anaheim, Calif., Joe and Hanne Wondercheck of Apple Valley, Minn. and Ray and Bev Wondercheck of Selah, Wash.; sisters, Arlene Jung of Grand Island, Mildred Jennings of Houston, Nadine Sindelar of Norfolk, Mary Ann Degen of Grand Island and Doris Bise of Port Townsend, Wash.; five grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and two step great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Louise Wondercheck of Fullerton and a host of relatives and friends. John was baptized in the Methodist Church. He attended school at Wolbach. He received an honorary diploma from Fullerton Schools. He served in the U.S. Army from 1945 to 1946 during World War II. The couple made their home and farmed in Nance County until 1972 when they moved into Fullerton. Then John worked at the Fullerton Sale Barn, retiring in 1987. He was a member of the Fullerton Eagles Club and a lifetime member of the Fullerton American Legion Post 151. John loved his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He enjoyed driving around checking the crops and scoping out the town. He also loved to sit under the big ash tree and watch traffic and people in general. John was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, infant Richard, Arthur Wondercheck Jr., Leonard Wondercheck and Ernie Wondercheck; sister, Helen Rose Wondercheck; brothers-in-law, Leonard Jung, Vernon Jennings, Maurice Sindelar, George Bise and Bill Degen Sr.; and sisters-in-law, Ellen Wondercheck and Elsie Wondercheck.
