FULLERTON — Mildred A. Jennings, 91, formerly of Fullerton, died May 6, 2013, at Pasadena, Texas. Memorial services will be at 10:30 a.m. at Palmer Funeral Home in Fullerton. The Rev. Val Warman will officiate. Mrs. Jennings was born Oct. 24, 1921, at Surprise to Arthur and Rose (Matousek) Wondercheck. She married Vernon Jennings on Feb. 15, 1941, at St. Paul. He preceded her in death. Survivors of the immediate family include three children, Gary Jennings and his wife, Sherry, of La Porte, Texas, Terry Jennings of Grand Island and Marsha Riley of Pasadena, Texas; seven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Joseph and Hannelore Wondercheck and Ray and Beverly Wondercheck; and four sisters, Arlene Jung, Doris Bise, Mary Ann Degen and Nadine Sindelar. Mildred grew up in Brainard and graduated from Wolbach High School as valedictorian. She attended normal training at Wayne State College and taught rural school for a short time. She and her husband farmed until 1950, when they moved to the North Platte area. Mildred was active in parent-teacher organizations in all of the schools her children attended. She was also active in Cub and Girl scouts and in the church youth groups of her children. Once she became a grandmother, she doted on her grandchildren and spent much time with them. She was a member of the First Christian Church in North Platte. She enjoyed cooking, sewing and gardening. She was preceded in death by five brothers, Arthur, Alvin, Leonard, John and Ernest Wondercheck. Posted in Obituaries on Friday, June 7, 2013 Grand Island Independent
