Millard County Chronicle 3/27/1947 SERVICES HELD FOR LORENZO H. CHRISTENSEN Lorenzo H. Christensen died in the hospital in Salt Lake City at 11:45 p.m. last Wednesday of complications following an operation. Mr. Christensen had been in the hospital for more than two months. He was sixty years of age. Mr. Christensen was born on Jan. 2, 1887 in Oak City a son of Anthony and Castine Lovell Christensen. He was married in December, 1913 to Miss Leah Bennett of Holden and their family home since has been their farm on the South Tract. Mr. Christensen was an active worker in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and held positions of leadership in the priesthood and the various auxillary organizations. He was counselor in the bishopric of the Delta Third Ward and later served as Bishop for 15 years. He filled three stake missions and in 1926 served a short term mission in Minnesota. Mr. Christensen was one of the early settlers on the South Tract, coming in when the country was being opened for cultivation. He was one of the workers on the diversion dam and a member of the crew who kept on the alert when it was in danger of going out. He was active in the community welfare, a good friend and neighbor, and esteemed by all who knew him as a man of integrity and sincerely. He is survived by his widow, and seven sons and daughter, Gordon Christensen, Salt Lake City; Mrs. Mildred Church, Talmadge Christensen, Ballard Christensen, Homer Christensen, Miariam and Gay Christensen all of Delta and nine grandchildren. There are also brothers and sisters; John A. Christensen, Joseph M. Christensen, Aurora Christensen, Edward and Alma Christensen all of Delta; Willard and Albert Christensen of Oak City and Mrs. Mary Pearl Anderson of Oasis and Mrs. Ivan Wright of Hinckley. Funeral services were conducted in the Delta First Ward chapel on Saturday mornning at 11 a.m. by Lathel Callister, Bishop of Delta Third Ward. An organ prelude "Abide With Me" by Miss Margaret Gardner opened, and the opening prayer was given by Harold R. Morris, President of Deseret Stake. The first speaker was Eddie Sorensen of Aurora; Mrs. Irene Sampson and Mrs. Margaret Callister sang a duet and Mrs. Loa Black gave a reading "A Real Man". Jos. L. Finlinson of Leamington, was the second speaker, followed by a quartet, Merlin Christensen, Joseph Christensen, Ned Church and Ray Church, who sang, "The Teacher's Work is Done". George Sampson spoke and Mrs. Hazel Walker played a piano selection "Clair de Lune". After remarks by Bishop Callister, the closing prayer was given by Wm. B. Pratt. Burial was in the cemetery at Delta, where the grave was dedicated by Charles R. Woodbury. Many friends of the family from out of town attended the services and all the brothers and sisters of Mr. and Mrs. Christensen were here, excepting Jos. M. Christensen who is ill in the hospital.
