Parents are buried in Warden Cemetery. Myrtle never married. She stayed with her father, Joseph Marshall Smith, to raise her brothers and sisters after her mother, Forginia Gertrude "Trudie" Whitfield, died from childbirth with her 16th child. That child, Alma Elizabeth, lived for several weeks but also died. Myrtle also raised several nieces and nephews after her sisters died in childbirth.
