William Theodore "Bill" Kohout was born on 28 May 1926, on the family farm in Henryville Township, Renville County, Minnesota. He was the youngest of ten children born to Michael and Anna (Svoboda) Kohout. Bill resided in Henryville Township and attended School District #104. He worked as a farm hand until he was drafted into the United States Army. Bill served in the Pacific Theater, during World War II, from 11 April to 28 November 1945. On 27 January 1948, Bill married Rose Jennie Goblish, the daughter of Michael and Rosa Jenny Serbus Goblish, in St. Mary's Catholic church in Bechyn, Minnesota. After their marriage, the couple lived near Bechyn where they raised their 11 children. In 1993, they retired to Redwood Falls. After they retired, Bill continued to work on the farm with his sons. And, he worked for the ASCS for 43 years where he measured bins and land; was a seasonal employee for Redwood County; worked for the Olivia Canning Company for nearly 20 years; was an active member of St. Catherine's Catholic Church, serving as an usher and mass server; was a member of the Knights of Columbus; served on the building committee for the new church and social concerns committee; was an active member of the Redwood Falls VFW Honor Guard; and, helped with the Redwood Area Food Shelf and Meals on Wheels. Bill liked fishing, playing his concertinas, and playing cards; and, he enjoyed his family, attended their activities, and supported the church softball league. Bill and Rose had seven daughters, Judy (Rien), Karen (Piekarski), Shirley Kohout, Marsha (Fluck), Renee (Cash), Joan (Ryan), and Laurie (Scherer); and, four sons, Eugene, Michael, John, and Larry Kohout. Of these 11 children, the twins are Michael and Marsha, John and Joan, and Laurie and Larry. William Theodore "Bill" Kohout died at the age of 76 on Sunday, 19 January 2003, at the Redwood Falls Hospital, Redwood Falls, Redwood County, Minnesota. Bill was survived by his wife, sons, daughters, 21 grandchildren; and four brothers, Ed, Stanley, Milo, and Jim; and a sister, Angie Kohout. Besides his parents, Bill was preceded in death by three brothers, Joe, Mike, and Ben; and two sisters, Lillian and Ann. Family and friends paid their final respects for Bill on Wednesday, 22 January, from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Nelson-Martin Funeral Service in Redwood Falls. There was a Knights of Columbus service at 7:15 p.m., followed by parish prayer. The funeral service, with military honors for Bill, was held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, 23 January 2003, in St. Catherine's Catholic Church in Redwood Falls. Burial followed in St. Catherine's Catholic Cemetery, North Redwood, Redwood County, Minnesota.
