Bio
Harold Russell "Russ" Koenig, 88 of Salida, died Oct. 14, 2009. He was born Aug. 14, 1921, in Blue Springs, Neb., the eighth of nine children of George Sr. and Mary Koenig. Mr. Koenig grew up on Nebraska farms and graduated from high school in Minatare, Neb., in 1938, the same year the family moved to Salida. While serving in the U.S. Navy during World War II, he met and married his wife, Mildred (Vaughn) Koenig. Mr. Koenig became a carpenter and spent his entire career in Salida, where many older homes display his finish work. He had a deep faith in God, loved being with people and was known for his honesty and humor. He spent his retirement caring for his wife. Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Mildred; sister, Helen Atchison of Sterling; daughter, Karen Bertrand of Howard; granddaughter, Tiffany (Bryan) Coleman of Howard; and great-grandchildren, Shealee and Ty Coleman of Howard. Funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Oct. 22, 2009, at Lewis and Glenn Funeral Home in Salida. Interment will follow in Fairview Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to Hildebrand Care Center, Cañon City, through Lewis and Glenn Funeral Home. ========================================
