Helen M. (Koenig) Atchison, 92, of Sterling died January 10, 2016 in Sterling. Funeral services will be at 10:30 am Saturday, Jan. 16 at Tennant Funeral Home with Rev. Michelle Witherspoon officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Helen was born on December 16, 1923 in Colby, Kansas to George and Mary Koenig. She graduated from Salida High School in Salida, Colorado in 1942. She married P. Ernest (Ernie) Atchison on October 11, 1944 in Raton, New Mexico. They had three children and lived in various cities across Colorado while Ernie was employed with McCoy Co. Caterpillar, returned to Sterling in the early 1970s. Mrs. Atchison retired from Colorado National Bank in 1987 as lead teller. She was a 72-year member of Beta Sigma Phi, an active member and Deacon of the First Presbyterian Church of Sterling, and a 13-year volunteer at the Sterling Tourist Information Center. She is survived by her son, daughter-in-law, granddaughter, grandsons, and 10 great-grandchildren; close friends Larry and Michelle Huggins and family. Helen was preceded in death by her parents, husband of 53 years Ernie Atchison, son G. Bill Atchison, Daughter and Son-in-law Cherrilyn and Gary Peterson, and Grandson Toby Peterson. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Helen’s name to the G. Bill Atchison Memorial Scholarship Fund through the Colorado State University Foundation in care of Tennant Funeral Home, PO Box 1547, Sterling, CO 80751. Tennant Funeral Home January 2016.
