Married Mary J. on May 12, 1945 SF1 US Navy World War II George William Koenig Jr., 87 of Salida, died June 8, 2007. He was born in Blue Springs, Neb., July 13, 1919, to George and Mary Elizabeth Koenig. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. In 1944, he moved to Salida where he ran the Rainbow Motel. Later he built and operated five Texaco stations and was a Texaco distributor. He and his wife Mary retired in 1998. He was involved in many organizations including the Masonic Lodge, Al Kaly Shrine Club, South Arkansas Fire Protection District, Salida Hospital board, Colorado State Highway Commission, Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion, Salida Rotary Club, Chamber of Commerce and the Elks. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Mary J. Koenig; daughters, Brenda (Pat) Kane of Colorado Springs and Carol Mumma of Salida; son, Patrick (Vicki) Koenig of Salida; grandchildren, Jennifer (William) White, Heidi Kane, Jason Kane, Jeremy Kane, Lyndsey (Tyrone) Winkler, Zane Mumma and Jesse Koenig; four great-grandchildren; brother, Russell (Mildred) Koenig of Salida; sister, Helen Atchison of Sterling and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and four sisters. Services will be held at 10 a.m. June 12, 2007, at United Methodist Church in Salida. Interment will follow in Fairview Cemetery.
