Monroe Lee Shelton is the son of Elias Coleman Shelton and Mary T ODEN Shelton. Monroe Lee Shelton born October 1868, Houston, Winston County, Alabama; died January 26, 1940, Lawton, Comanche County, Oklahoma. • Married Mary Abbiegail Moore January 05, 1890, McKinney, Collin County, Texas. Shelton, 71, resident of Comanche County for 37 years, died unexpectedly while asleep early Friday at his home one mile west of Lawton on the Cameron College road. Mrs. Shelton discovered her husband was dead at 12:30 a.m. They had retired at 11 p.m. Mr. Shelton apparently was feeling normal, she said. He had not been ill, it was said. Funeral Sunday Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at the Lawton Funeral home chapel. Rev. Ferrell Fox, pastor of the First Christian Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Highland cemetery. Born October 18, 1868, in Mississippi [Houston, Winston County, Alabama], Mr. Shelton married Miss Mary Moore at McKinney, Collin County, Texas, January 5, 1890. Mr. and Mrs. Shelton celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary last January 5. In County Since 1903 The Sheltons came to Oklahoma in 1891, settling in Greer County; then came to Comanche County in 1903, locating first at Fletcher. In 1916, they moved to Lawton where Mr. Shelton was employed in the constructing quartermaster office for 17 years, retiring about four years ago. Survivors include three sons, Otto, Claude and Dick, all of Lawton; four daughters, Mrs. B. A. Reed, Ninnekah; Mrs. Ray Thompson and Mrs. James Ingram, both of Lawton; and Mrs. Charles A Butler, Chicago; 15 grandchildren and three great grandchildren: three brothers. Henry of Ardmore; George, Sulphur: and Tom, Bristow; and two sisters, Mrs. G. H. Hamilton and Mrs. D.
