Services for James Louis Buchanan, 65, of Thorndale are 3 p.m. Friday at First Baptist Church in Thorndale with the Rev. Jeremy Sheppard officiating. Burial is in Pleasant Retreat Cemetery near Thorndale. Mr. Buchanan died Tuesday, Jan. 4, in a Temple hospital. He was born July 31, 1945, to Ernest and Matilda Kropp Buchanan in Thorndale. He worked in construction and for Alcoa's Rockdale operations for 15 years. He also grew watermelons. He married Alice Joyce Stolle on June 5, 1965. Survivors include his wife of Thorndale; two sons, Roland Buchanan of Portland and Jerome Buchanan of Thorndale; three daughters, Carrie Kiesling of Thorndale, Rhonda Stromsness of Hutto and Jenna Menzel of Arlington; a sister, Marjorie Baggett of Gatesville; and 15 grandchildren. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church Local Mission of Evanglism and Outreach, P.O. Box 217, Thorndale TX 76577. Visitation is 6-8 p.m. today at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale.
