Bio
Charles William Remington, 88, of Austin died Wednesday, Dec. 29, 2010, at Saint Marys Hospital in Rochester. He was born Aug. 25, 1922, in Spring Valley to Frank and Lyle (Herron) Remington. He moved to Austin at the age of 4, graduated from Austin High School in 1941 and served in the Army Air Force from November 1942 through February 1946 during WWII. Charlie married Helen Chapek on Oct. 6, 1946. She preceded him in death after 54 1/2 years of marriage. He was also preceded in death by his daughter Annette Marie Remington. Survivors include his children, Raymond (Cheryl) Remington of Austin and LaVonne (Ed) Mathewson of Maple Grove; three grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; and a stepbrother, Gene Wilson, Red Wing. Charles was a boiler operator for Hormel Foods, retiring after 41 years of service. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church and a lifetime member of VFW Post 1216 and the American Legion Post 91. The funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 3, 2010, at Mayer Funeral Home with the Rev. Pat Toschak officiating. Friends may call from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday and an hour before the service Monday at the funeral home. Interment will be in Grandview Cemetery with military rites by American Legion Post 91 and VFW Post 1216. Obituary from Rochester Post Bulletin, Jan. 1, 2011.
