Funeral services for Carl D. Askew, 81, of Gainesville are set for 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 2, 2011 at the Geo. J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Chris Webb and David Gray officiating. Burial will follow in the Fairview Cemetery. Services are under the direction of the Geo. J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home. Carl died Wednesday, Dec. 29, 2010 in Sherman. Mr. Askew was born Dec. 4, 1929 in Willis, Okla. to Elmer "Bud" Newton and Maggie Lee Badgett Askew. Carl married Margie Ruth Jones on June 25, 1949. He served in the United States Army from 1952 to 1954 and was stationed in Italy. Carl and Margie moved to Gainesville in 1954. Mr. Askew worked at R.D. Clack's for many years. In 1982 he opened Askew Tire where he was owner and operator until 1944 when he retired. Carl is survived by his wife of 61 years, Margie Askew of Gainesville and his children, Rachel and Larry Kirby of Gainesville, Howard Askew of Gainesville and Holly and Jack Davidson of Lake Kiowa. Carl also has six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Wendyl and Minnie Askew of Willis, Okla. and sister Barbara Yow of Saginaw. He was preceded in death by his parents, Bud and Maggie Lee Askew; his son, Mark Askew and his grandson, Tim Askew. Carl was a beloved husband, father, brother and friend who will be missed by all that knew him. Pallbearers will be B.C. Lemons, Larry Beck, Jo Paul Hufner, David Beck, Kenny Wilson and Jerry Estes. Honorary pallbearers will be Bill Sluder, Joe Seale, Glenn Farguson and Delmar Lynn Northcutt.
