Bio

Alanson West was the son of Anson and Hannah (Gates) West. He was a native of Minerva, New York and was a farmer, like his father. He settled on a portion of land purchased from his father. He married Olive B. Morse, daughter of Absalom Pride Morse and Lydia Tallman Morse. Alanson and Olive had three sons. At the age of 38, he volunteered for service in the Civil War, enlisting in the 16th New York Regiment of Heavy Artillary. He died of pneumonia shortly after in Elmira, New York, leaving a family with young children.
