Note: Anson had no will or probate in Jefferson county at the time of his death. His Jefferson county death certificate did not list the names of his parents, nor did either of the two obituaries found for him. A 1984 Anson West family group sheet compiled by Ann Lynch listed the parents as: Father - Anson West Mother - Hannah Cates (spelled "Cates" on this family group sheet, but may have been misread/interpreted as such; the F/A/G memorial for her uses "Gates" for the maiden name) These names were provided on this memorial to help any West family researchers - this memorial is updated November 2, 2017 with parent relationship links per edit request. ------------ Husband of Anne/Ann Johnson West, married in 1847. There exists a old, undated photo of Anson West and his threshing crew, including sons Floyd and Scott, and part of the machinery. Unfortunately the photo is not quite clear enough to use on this memorial. Anson, as pictured, had a very long, full beard. ----------- Obituary for Anson West: Fairfield Tribune July 22, 1908 Pg. 7 Col. 2 Death of Anson West One of the oldest residents of Jefferson county was taken away when Anson West died at his home on West Kirkwood street Tuesday, July 14th. Mr. Anson was 86 years old and had been a resident of this county for more than fifty years. Together with his wife he moved to a farm in Blackhawk township about fifty-three years ago. They remained there until about three years ago, when they moved to this city. The deceased is survived by a wife and seven children. Four children preceded him in death. Mr. West was one of the most widely known and highly respected citizens of this county and the loss in his death will be widely felt. The funeral was held Wednesday morning at 10 o'clock from the Baptist church and was in charge of Clinton Lodge No. 10, A.F. & A. M., of which he was a member. ----------- Note: The following is a listing of the eleven children of Anson and Ann West as best as can be determined at this time. Where possible, links to known memorials are being made or requested to be made. Two 'child' as listed are unknown as to when they died and where they were buried. The listing is done as best as possible in chronological order as determined by a Anson West family group sheet and DOB information found on certain memorials: > Floyd J. West > Ida Elcena West Neff > Flora Emma West Fulton > Mary Helen West Boyd > Scott Porter West > 'Child', b. about 1862 > William S. West > Cora Bell West > 'Child', b. about 1870 > Frank L. West > Harry F. West
