Bio

Anson West was born in Rensselaer County, New York, a son of Nathan and Martha (Titus) West. They lived in Hartford, New York, where Anson married Hannah Gates, before settling in Minerva, New York. In 1832, Anson moved his family to Chautauqua County, New York, but returned to Minerva in 1840. He kept a farm at Minerva until he was unable to do so due to old age. He was Postmaster at Minerva between 1841 and 1853, and town supervisor in 1850. He and his wife lived their last years in the town of Schroon with their daughter and son-in-law, James and Hannah (West) Huntley.
