Cecilia Szelag, 82, of Columbus, died Monday, Dec. 27, 2010, at Clarkson Hospital in Omaha. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Columbus. Rev. Joseph A. Miksch will be officiating. Interment will be in the St. Bonaventure Cemetery in Columbus. Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. today, with a 7 p.m. vigil at St. Anthony Catholic Church. Visitation continues Friday morning from 9:30-10:30 a.m., also at the church. Cecilia Szelag was born March 4, 1928, in Duncan, to Joseph and Pauline (Mostek) Zywiec. She attended District #10 School near Silver Creek. On May 24, 1948, Cecilia married John S. Szelag at Ss. Peter & Paul Catholic Church - Krakow near Genoa. She worked for Becton - Dickinson for 23 years, until retiring in 1991. Cecilia was a member of St. Anthony Church, St. Theresa Sodality, Eagles Club, BD Alumni and the American Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed playing bingo, and spending time with her family and friends. She is survived by her daughter, Barbara (Bert) Bates, of San Antonio, Texas; daughter, Cynthia Christopher and Elliot Pope, of Columbia, Mo.; son, John (Sandra) Szelag, of Columbus; son, Kenneth (Sheryl) Szelag, of Columbus; daughter, Lois (Scott) Blaser, of Cheyenne, Wyo.; daughter, Kathy (Chuck) Lash, of Columbus; sister, Frances Beck, of Grand Island; brother, Dominic Zywiec, of Central City; sister, Mary Ann Dufek, of Columbus; sister, Theresa Henry, of Papillion; 14 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, John S. Szelag; father, Joseph Zywiec; mother, Pauline Zywiec; son-in-law, John Christopher; brother, Frank Zywiec; sister, Dorothy Fendrick; brother, Louis Zywiec; sister, Stella Kowalski; brother, Leo Zywiec; brother, John Zywiec; and two great-grandchildren, Alex Reed and Shelby Prososki
