Dorothy Fendrich, age 87, of Springfield, Oregon, passed away Saturday, March 22, 2008, at her residence of natural causes. In 1942, they traveled to Oregon where their destination was Portland for Jerry to work as a welder in the ship yards. Along the way, they stopped in Gold Beach to visit Jerry's older brother and decided to stay there when Jerry was offered a job repairing engines for the Mail boats. Later Jerry built "Jerry's Garage", which they operated for many years. They lived in Gold Beach for over fifty years, celebrating their 50th anniversary in l988. Jerry passed away in 1991. Later, as a widow, Dorothy left Gold Beach in 1999 to reside in Roseburg, Oregon, and later moved to Springfield. Dorothy was a very committed wife and mother, faithfully blessing her family and friends with her talents. She and Jerry raised five children, enjoyed cooking, baking, and sewing and worked diligently to make a comfortable home for her family. She did the bookkeeping for her husbands business, Jerry's Garage, as well as helped run the service station at the same location. Later, after closing the station, and remodeling, they opened a skating rink where Dorothy worked for many years. She also enjoyed bowling and dancing, especially square dancing.
