CENTRAL CITY — Dominic S. "Dick" Zywiec, 79, of Central City died Sunday, Aug. 4, 2013, at Long Term Care in Central City. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Central City with Msgr. Nelson Newman officiating. Burial will be in the Central City Cemetery. Solt Funeral Home of Central City is in charge of arrangements. Mr. Zywiec was born Aug. 3, 1934, near Duncan to Joseph and Pauline (Mostek) Zywiec. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mariann, on Aug.27, 2003, and a daughter, Lisa Hansen, on April 16, 2002. Survivors of the immediate family include his children and their spouses, Mike and Jonita Zywiec and Rick and Candy Zywiec, all of Central City and Chris Wendt of Oklahoma City; three sisters, Frances Beck of Grand Island, Mary Ann of Columbus, and Theresa of Iowa; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He grew up and attended school in the Duncan and Genoa communities. As a young man, Dick went to live with his older sister and her husband, Walter and Frances Beck, and worked for them on their farm near Clarks. On Sept. 26, 1957, Dick was united in marriage to Mariann Landers. From 1954 through 1964, Dick farmed in the Cedar Valley in Nance County. The family moved to Central City in 1964, and Dick continued to farm until retiring several years ago. Dick was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church and Order of the Fraternity of Eagles. Dick was also preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Frank, Louie, Leo and Johnny Zywiec; and three sisters, Dorothy Fendrichs, Cecilia Szelag and Stella Kawolski.
