Excerpt from book written by Gerhard Dick born 1852 Father Gerhard Dick was born April 26, 1825, he lived the years of his youth in Marganau. He married Katherine Friesen on November 11, 1847. After their marriage he built a small house in Marganau where they lived a few years. This house was built on Grandfathers homeland. In this little house I was born. When I was half grown up this house burned down one hot summer day. At that time it belonged to a David Teichrob. From here the folks moved to Shroders Chuter, where today (1928)the village Gnadenthal is. Here my sister Katharina was born on August 13th, 1855. After three years, father bought a lot in Nikolaidorf and built a house on it. Here my sister Anna was born on September 14, 1857. Three years later we moved back to Marganau where father bought a house. Here my sister Helena was born on June 26, 1860. A few years later they sold the house and bought a farm a half wirthschaft, which was about 80 acres in Lot No. 5. Here is where my sister Margaretta was born on October 14, 1871. Here they farmed till May 26, 1877 when they sold everything and got ready to come to America, arriving in Sutton, Nebraska on July 3, 1877.
