Friedrich Heinrich Wilhelm Gaskamp was the son of Friedrich Heinrich Gaskamp and Marie Margarethe Elisabeth Vordemfeld. Wilhelm was born in Arrenkamp, Westphalia, Germany. Wilhelm Gaskamp was baptized August 21, 1853, and he was confirmed April 5, 1868, in the Lutheran Church Parish in Dielingen, Westphalia. He married Margarethe Louise Sophie Wendt on Sept. 29, 1874, in Germany. After the deaths of his parents, Wilhelm brought his wife and children, and his two younger sisters, Louise and Sophie, to Texas in 1882. The family settled in the Zionsville community of Washington County. Wilhelm Gaskamp signed the constitution of Zion Lutheran Church of Zionsville on January 2, 1884. Wilhelm Gaskamp took his oath to become a naturalized citizen of the United States on September 12, 1906, in Brenham, Texas. ****************************************************************************** OBITUARY FROM THE BRENHAM BANNER PRESS: WM. GASKAMP DIES TUESDAY AT WELCOME Rites Will Be Held At Lutheran Church At Zionsville William Gaskamp, aged 87, of the Welcome Community, died at 4:30 Tuesday morning at the residence of his son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Gaskamp, Jr., after a lingering illness. He was born in Germany August 3, 1853, came to America in 1881 and settled at Zionsville. He had made his home in Austin and Washington Counties since that time. For the past thirteen years he resided with his son, W. H. Gaskamp, Jr., at Welcome. Survivors are the following sons: Fritz Gaskamp of Ganado, W. H. Gaskamp of Welcome, Gus Gaskamp of Kenney, Louis Gaskamp of Independence. His wife died in 1928, and four children have also preceded him to the grave. Twenty-eight grandchildren and a number of great-grandchildren survive and he also leaves a sister, Mrs. Louise Kramer of Needville. Funeral services will be held from the residence of W. H. Gaskamp, Jr., at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday and continued at the Zionsville Lutheran Church with Rev. I. Mansur officiating and the Leon Simank Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Interment will be by the side of his wife in the Zionsville cemetery. His grandsons will serve as pall bearers.
