Services for Miss Vila M. Chism, 65, were held in the Hamlin Church of Christ. Miss Chism was a pioneer school teacher in this section of Texas. She was born in Almeda. Bruce Proctor, minister of the North Park Church of Christ in Abilene was in charge of the service. Survived by one sister - Mrs. F.M. Crow of Hamlin. Hamlin Herald September 3, 1948 Miss Viola Marshall Chism, for many years a teacher in Caddo and Washita counties. She was buried in East Cemetery, Hamlin, Texas, on Aug. 30. Services were in the Hamlin Church of Christ with the minister, Bruce Proctor of Abilene, Texas, officiating. Miss Chism came with her parents to Pottawatomie County in 1889. They came to Caddo County in 1901 and she had been a resident of the county since. At the time of her death, she owned a farm 2 1/2 miles west of Oney. She attended Southwestern State Teachers College at Weatherford and taught in public schools for more than 30 years. Due to ill health, she had not taught for two years and made her home with a sister in Hamlin. She was converted and became a member of the Church of Christ at the age of 14. She was a member of the Rebekah Lodge at Binger and of the American Legion Auxiliary. Survivors are five brothers, C.W. Chism; Frank Chism; Tom Chism; Ed Chism; and John Chism; and four sisters, Mrs. Kate Jones; Mrs. Eliza Prosser; Mrs. Almeda Crow, and Mrs. Ida Crow. The Carnegie Herald Sept. 15, 1948
