Bio

Services for Charlene Smith, 70 of Killeen, will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at East Side Baptist Church in Killeen. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Crawford-Bowers Funeral Home in Killeen. Mrs. Smith died Oct. 17, 2009, at her home surrounded by family. She was born May 1, 1937, to Flossie and John Elliot in Mobile, Mo. She married Delbert Smith on June 8, 1956, at East Side Baptist Church. She worked for many years as a nurse's aide at Nolan Middle School. After that, she and Delbert owned and operated their own automobile parts business in Killeen. She was a faithful member of East Side Baptist Church and loved working in their mission several days a week. She loved to garden, bowl, dance and sew. Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by her husband, Delbert, on Nov. 21, 2008 after 52 years of marriage. She is survived by two daughters, Debbie Joe Curl and Sherry Hood; two brothers, Norman and Terry Elliot; a sister, Ruth Switzer; four grandchildren, Kari Bell, Vernon Curl, Brandi Curl and Waylon Rhoades; and four great-grandchildren.
