Services for Bessie Maxine Finzen, 78, Dysart, were Monday, Aug. 14, at the Dysart United Methodist Church with the Rev. Carroll Robinson in charge of the the service. Burial was in National Cemetery at Vining. She died Thursday, Aug. 10, at her home. Bessie Maxine Dostal was born July 28, 1911, at Elberon, one of 12 children of Joseph and Anna (Pavlicek) Dostal. She received her education in country school. She married Arthur Finzen, October 8, 1940, at Davenport, and they farmed until 1949. They then moved to the Geneseo area, and he went to work at John Deere Tractor Works. After his death April 12, 1972, she continued to live in Geneseo Township. In more recent years, she maid her home n the west edge of Dysart. She was a member of the Dysart United Methodist Church. Surviving are a son, Arthur of Traer, four daughters, Mrs. David (Joanne) Hansen of Dysart, Janice Finzen of Waterloo, Mrs. Galen (Jeanne) Delfs of Dysart, and Mrs. James (Susan) Brucher of Waterloo; a sister, Mrs. Louise Salasek of Marshalltown; and five grandchildren. Funeral organist was Mrs. Leroy Whannel, and vocalist was Paul Linderman. On the flower committee were Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Hach, and Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Peters. Casket bearers were Larry Winkelpleck Jr., Jon Winkelpleck, Doug Dvorak, Jack Bauch, Jared Bauch, and Norman Holub. Overton Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. [Obituary, 1989]
