Dale Reuben Mitchell, 90, of Burwell died Wednesday, Nov. 24, 2010 at the Community Memorial Health Center in Burwell. Dale was born May 20, 1920 in Greeley County near Scotia to Robert R. and Othelia D. (Keown) Mitchell. Survivors are: children and their spouses; Sharon and Roger Craichy of Burwell and Dave and Pat Mitchell of Amelia; sisters, Dorothy Sorensen of Fremont, June and her husband Warren Luce of Ravenna and Bonnie and her husband Bo Conner of Burwell; the families of Sam Pishna, Vern Pishna and JoAnn Nekuda; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and a host of friends and relatives. Dale grew up northeast of Scotia and graduated from Scotia High School in 1939. On Jan. 13, 1942 Dale entered the United States Army. He was stationed in Africa, Italy, France and Germany. He was honorably discharged on Oct. 16, 1945. After the service Dale ranched with his dad on the ranch 30 miles north of Burwell, that his family moved to while he was in the service. Dale married Loretta S. Taylor on Jan. 4, 1947 in O'Neill. They lived on the ranch their entire married life. Loretta died Aug. 15, 1997. In the fall of 1999 Dale moved to Burwell. Dale enjoyed playing cards and traveling. He liked to visit with and watch people. He never forgot anyone he ever met. Dale was a member of the American Legion and he was a Justice of the Peace. He was also on the Holt County Township Road Board until just two years ago. Dale was preceded in death by his parents, wife Loretta, sisters, Thelma Dultz and Lois Sidak, brother, Ernest Lee Mitchell and special later life companion, Doris Pishna.
