Lambert Theodore Larchick, 91, of Kearney died Tuesday, Nov. 16, 2010, at his residence. Lambert was preceded in death by his wife, Velma Larchick. Survivors are: daughters and sons-in-law, Carol and Don Theis of Gibbon, Connie and Ken Dustin of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Renee and Willis Behn of Kearney; sons and daughters-in-law, Ronald and Linda Larchick of Oklahoma City, Okla., Jeff Larchick of Lincoln and Myron and Julie Larchick of Hershey; 16 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and a host of friends and relatives. He was also preceded in death by his parents, four sisters, one granddaughter, one grandson, and one great-grandson. Lambert Larchick son of Frank and Stancie (Gzehoviak) Larchick worked in partnership with his father in Larchick Construction and also farmed around Loup City. He also painted houses for Travelers Insurance Company. In 1952, he moved from Loup City to Kearney to work for Carl Spelts. He started up his own construction company and built numerous homes in the Mid-Nebraska area. He met Velma Trompke his wife of 65 years in Loup City. Lambert and Velma married on Sept. 15, 1942, in Loup City at St. Josaphats Catholic Church. He prided himself on being an honest and fair business man. He was always there to volunteer his time and expertise. He designed and built the Bell Tower and signs at St. James Catholic Church. To this day his beautiful wood working is displayed throughout St. James Catholic Church and many churches across Nebraska. Lambert removed the stain glass windows from the old St. James Church, reframed and installed the windows into what is now the St. James Church Social Hall. He was also on the St. James Catholic Church Grounds Committee, the Financial Committee and too many others to mention. He was instrumental in obtaining the building that houses the Knights of Columbus in Kearney. He held many offices in the Knights of Columbus including Grand Knight and Deputy Grand Knight. He was one of the founders of the Fourth Degree assembly and served as a Faithful Navigator. He was also Knight of the Year in 1988. He took particular pride in his fruit orchard and his garden; he loved sharing the fruits of his labor with his family and friends. He was an important part of the Kearney Community and will be greatly missed. The greatest joy of his life was his wife and family. He was the patriarch of our family and what he brought to us will be forever cherished. Published in The Grand Island Independent on 11/18/2010
