Jessie Odell "J.O." Grooms, of the Virginia Care Center and Lynchburg, Va., international evangelist, went home to his Lord on Monday, April 5, 2010. J.O. was born on July 21, 1923, in Wills Point, Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jessie Augustus and Opal Smith Groom; a sister, Marjorie Groom Athey; and two brothers, Kenneth Groom and James Groom. J.O. is survived by his wife of 63 years, three sisters, and five children. He is also survived by 15 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren. J.O. Grooms trusted Christ as his Savior and Lord at the age of 25. He spent the rest of his life introducing people to our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He worked for over 20 years on the staff of the Thomas Road Baptist Church with the late Dr. Jerry Falwell and taught Personal Evangelism at Liberty University. He was the founder of the worldwide mission ministry, Treasure Path to Soul Winning, Inc. His travels took him to over 30 nations of the world. He is the author of a number of Scripture Memory books including Treasure Path to Soul Winning with over a million copies in print, in 16 languages throughout the world. His life and witness impacted millions around the globe with the gospel of Jesus Christ. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be sent to Treasure Path to Soul Winning, P.O. Box 600, Blue Ridge, Va. to support pastors in India which was his passion in the last years of his life. There will be a special memorial celebration at Thomas Road Baptist Church, Lynchburg, Va., 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 1, 2010. The family will have a private viewing and graveside service.
