Bio
Annie was the daughter of Issac and Charity Hammock. Not much else is known about Annie at this time, except the family agrees she was part Cherokee Indian. My great uncle Clyde describes her as, "A big Indian woman." I look forward to finding out more about her and giving an update here on her memorial. many records indicate she was born in 1859 and not 1861 as on her headstone. Her husband Lewis' headstone is wrong as are many other stones in Chumley cemetery. In the 1860 federal census, she is living with her parents in her grandparents home with her sister Sarah, and she is 1 year old, which means she was born in 1859 and not 1861 as her headstone reads. Chumley Cemetery - a lot of the headstones were placed long after family members had died and the date used were not taken from records, but from what family remembered. Therefore, we have taken the dates from records instead of the stones.
