Bio
Lewis Garrett was the 2nd son of Daniel and Matilda Bryant Chumley. He was the 4th generation of the Chumley family to live in Claiborne county. Lewis and Annie had 7 children. Lewis and Annie had a farm located east of this cemetery and on the other side of Powell River, the east side of Powell River. At one time, Daniel Huff, Lewis' father, and 2 of his sons, Van Weems and Wheeler Chumley had homes together there on the river. Lewis' father Daniel Huff originally donated the land for this Chumley Cemetery. The land adjacent to this cemetery is still owned by the descendents of Lewis. Burial records show DOD as 6 Feb and not the 10th as on the headstone. Chumley Cemetery - a lot of the headstones were placed long after family members had died and the date used were not taken from records, but from what family remembered. Therefore, we have taken the dates from records instead of the stones.
