Merta, daughter of Frank and Anna Cerny Yuranek was born April 7, 1893 at Edhome, Nebraska near the David City area. She received her education at Edhome and David City in parochial schools. She married Cyril Havlik at York where they resided for a period of time. On November 18, 1920 she was married to Charles Merta at Omaha. Following their marriage they farmed southeast of Wolbach all their married life. After the death of Mr. Merta in 1961 she made her home with a son, Cyril near Wolbach. In 1974 she moved to St. Paul to make her home. She departed this life on Tuesday, February 4, 1975 at the Howard County Community Hospital in St. Paul at the age of 81 years. Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Ella Marie Swanson of St. Paul; three sisters, Miss Agnes Yuranek and Mrs. Anna Hladkey, both of Central City, and Mrs. Mary Christensen of Portland, Oregon; two granddaughters, Mrs. Marilyn Hansen and Kay Lynn Swanson of St. Paul and one grandson, David of St. Paul and two great-grandchildren, Christy and Allen. Preceding in death were her husband, one son, Cyril Jr. and two sisters, Julia and Alta.
