He was baptized into the Catholic faith on Aug. 30, 1925. Chuck grew up on a ranch southwest of Ericson and attended elementary school at Amity Grade School. He moved to Omaha to live with his Uncle Andy and Aunt Clara Sobczyk while attending his freshman year of Catholic high school. He returned to Ericson where he attended grades 10-12 and graduated from Ericson High School. After graduation, he began ranching and farming while living on the John Kokes place for three years. He was drafted into the service in 1945 and was stationed in Hawaii until his honorable discharge. He returned home and resumed living on the Kokes place. On Oct. 10, 1950, Chuck was united in marriage to Lela Maye Foster at St. Theresa's Catholic Church in Ericson. The couple remained on the Kokes place a few years before moving to the Bob Olson place near Elyria, then the Mottel place near Burwell for 10 years, and later to the Foster ranch south of Ericson. In 1974, they moved to Burwell, where Chuck worked for the co-op and later became manager. After retiring from the co-op, they then moved back to Ericson.
