Bio
Opal Lucille Payne, the daughter of Noble Riley and Laura Whitmore Payne, was born September 30, 1920, at Guide Rock, Nebraska. She passed away on October 24, 1982, at the Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital in Hastings, Nebraska, at the age of 62 years and 24 days. She grew up in the Garfield Community, attending rural schools in Webster County. On June 17, 1940, Opal was united in marriage to Earl Hoskins. Two children were born to this union. Opal and Earl resided in the Guide Rock Community until 1965 when they moved to Superior. They lived there until 1981, when they moved to the Good Samaritan Village in Hastings. Opal took great pride in the care of her home and had an abundance of love and compassion for her family and friends. She was an unselfish individual who concerned herself more with the happiness of others than of herself. She was preceded in death by her parents, and her daughter, Shirleen Holling, who passed sway April 29, 1979. Surviving are her husband, Earl, of Hastings, Nebraska; one son, Lin, and his wife, Deb, of Trumbull, Nebraska; six grandchildren, Mark, Gary and Tony Holling, and Lori, Stacey and Michael Hoskins; a sister, Mrs. Velma Wilson, of Superior; one brother, Albert Payne, of Guide Rock, Nebraska; nieces; nephews; other relatives and her many, many friends. Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, October 27, 1982, from the Simonson-Williams Funeral Home Chapel in Red Cloud with the Reverend Harold J. Westlund Officiating. Mrs. Sue McNeil sang, "One Day At A Time" and "In The Garden", accompanied by Mrs. Sylvia Beams, organist. The pallbearers were Ray Biltoft, Darrell Biltoft, Keith Shellhase, Keith Portenier, Hi Moger and Keith Hartman. Interment was in the Guide Rock Cemetery. Superior Express, Thursday, November 4, 1982
