Bio

Hattie Lee Canada was born 7 June 1919 in Ione, Logan, Arkansas, USA. She was the youngest of the four children born to Jesse Melvin Canada (1875-1920) and Ola Mae [Phillips] Canada(1894-1960). Siblings: Cecil Melvin Canada (1912-1981), John Thomas Canada (1914-1990) and Edith Mae [Canada] Hodge (1917-2009). Her father, Jesse, was a Methodist Preacher and a farmer who had been married before and had two daughters; Dillie Ann [Canada] Hightower (1900-1987) and Dyris E. [Canada] Dewitt (1909-1978) Hattie's father died of swine flu on 1 March 1920 when Hattie was only 11 months old. Later that year, her mother married Robert Welker on 21 December 1920. They had one son, Granville Hamilton Welker (1921-2003). They later divorced. Her mother, Ola then married John Henry King Sr. on 26 March 1928 and they were the parents of 5 children, Loretta Marie [King] Dillard (1927-1996), Vina Ann [King] Sharum (1929-1971) Margie Louise [King] Garner (1932-), George King (1936-) and Bobby Gene King (1938-2004). Hattie married James William Otwell (1911-1974) on 15 December 1934 in Crawford County, Arkansas. They became the parents of Ola Juanita Otwell (1935-1935), Margaret Virginia Otwell (1938-1948), James W. Otwell (1940-), John Earl Otwell (1942-), Patricia Darlene Otwell (1944-2011), Negreta Lyn Otwell (1946-), Carolyn Elaine Otwell (1947-1948), Baby Boy Otwell (1948-1948) and Charlotte Joy Otwell (1950-). After her husband James passed away in 1974, Hattie married ? Lite/Light. Hattie Lee passed away 11 March 2004 in Sebastian County, Arkansas and was buried in the Mount Harmony Cemetery in Greenwood, Sebastian, Arkansas.
