Sarah Jane Mason (Troxel), was known as "Sadie". The following is the obituary of Sarah "Sadie" Troxel from the Custer County Chief Newspaper in Broken Bow, Nebraska, dated May 30, 1996. It was found on microfilm in the newspaper archives of the Nebraska State Historical Society in Lincoln, Nebraska: Sarah "Sadie" Troxel Sarah Jane "Sadie" Troxel, 84, of Broken Bow died May 21, 1996 at Heritage Hall Nursing Home in Broken Bow. Funeral services were May 24 at 10:30 a.m. at Govier Brothers Chapel in Broken Bow, with the Rev. Art Swarthout officiating. Music was provided by Norma Johnson, organist, and Oryl Fischer, soloist. Casketbearers were Monte, Tim, Sam, Jim, Sid and Keith Troxel. Burial was in the Grand View Cemetery at Anselmo, with Govier Brothers Mortuary of Broken Bow in charge of the arrangements. Troxel was born June 3, 1911 at Seneca to Robert C. and Edna Alice (Posten) Mason. At an early age, she moved with her family to Anselmo. She attendedschool at Anselmo through the tenth grade, at which time she was needed at home to care for an ill brother. On Feb. 20, 1932, she was married to Sam Troxel.Three children were born to this union. The couple spent most of their married life farming in Custer County. In 1955, they moved from the farm into Anselmo, where they owned and operated the Phillips 66 Service Station for five years. They moved to Dunning, and returned to Anselmo a year later. Her husband died in 1963. She worked for Becton Dickinson VACUTAINER Systems in Broken Bow for approximately 15 years, retiring at age 65. Survivors include her daughter, Sharon Kay Land, Broken Bow; sons, Lawrence, Pawnee City, and Richard of Ainsworth; nine grandchildren; 11 greatgrandchildren; sister, Eva Leona Troxel, Vancouver, Wash.; and brothers, Robert Mason, North Platte, and Paul Mason, Vancouver, Wash. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brothers, Clarence, Ralph, Ernes, William and George, and sisters, Myrtle, Jackie and Irene."
