North Platte Telegraph, The (NE) - Wednesday, April 23, 2014 Goldie Lucille Lighthill Pound Goldie Lucille Lighthill Pound, 98, of Sutherland, formerly of Mullen and Thedford, passed away April 20, 2014, at the Sutherland Care Center. Goldie was born on Sept. 21, 1915, to Herman and Millie (Mizner) Lighthill at their farm home near Hazard. She was the oldest of seven children. She loved riding horses and helping her dad as a young girl. She attended rural schools, received her GED and attended business school in Lincoln. As a young girl, Goldie went to live and work for Nona and Don Hanna at Brownlee. Nona became like a second mother to her. It was there she met Paul Pound and they were united in marriage on Dec. 24, 1942, shortly before Paul entered the Army. Their oldest daughter, Wynona Lee, was born at Fort Warren in Cheyenne, Wyo. After Paul left the service, they lived on a ranch southeast of Valentine, where their second daughter, Shari May, was born. In 1950, they moved and ranched at Brownlee. In 1955, the family moved to Thedford and they lived there until Paul's death in 1985. Goldie loved reading and enjoyed working at the Thedford Library. She also worked at the Thedford Drive-In and made pies for the Thedford Sale Barn Café. She was a good cook and enjoyed sharing her homemade bread and other foods with her family and friends. In 1986, Goldie moved to Valentine where she enjoyed helping and caring for others in need. Goldie was a 50-year member of the Thedford United Church of Christ, the Order of the Eastern Stars and the Thedford American Legion Auxiliary. Survivors include two daughters, Wynona (Duane) Bolton, of Brownlee, and Shari (John) Jensen, of Arthur; a sister-in-law, Esther Lighthill, of Kansas City, Mo.; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband; her parents; two sisters, Hazel Griffith and Zona Dee Nelson; and four brothers, Boyd, Darrell, Burl and Dean. Memorials are suggested to the Gideons International, Hillcrest Cemetery, Order of the Eastern Stars Chapter 261, United Church of Christ or the donor's choice. Services will be at 2 p.m. (CST) on Saturday, April 26, at the Thedford United Church of Christ. Burial will be at the Hillcrest Cemetery at Thedford. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to service time on Saturday, at the church. Mullen Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
