Bio

Funeral service for Velda L. King, 96,of Lawton will be at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, September 21, 2015 at First Baptist West with Rev. Harold Gaches, pastor officiating. Burial will be at Sterling Cemetery under the direction of Lawton Ritter Gray Funeral Home. Ms. King went to heaven, peacefully with her family by her side, on Tuesday, September 15, 2015. There will be a special viewing and visitation for family and friends from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 20, 2015 at the funeral home. Velda was born on July 23, 1919 in Lawton, Oklahoma to Henry Jacob and Eva (Stice) Moore. She grew up in Lawton until 1931 when the family moved to Sterling, Oklahoma. She married Fletcher King on September 4, 1937 in Lawton, OK and lived and farmed in Sterling until they moved to Lawton in 1953. Mr. King passed away on March 6, 1981. Velda worked for over 35 years at Meadors Department Store before retiring in 1988. She was a sales clerk, secretary and bookkeeper. She loved to sew, crochet and enjoyed arts and crafts. She was a member of Northside Baptist Church for almost 50 years and was very active, being Sunday School President, on the Prayer Chain, Fellowship & Benevolence Committees, and Bible School. She later joined First Baptist West in August of 2001. She was loved and known affectionately as "Grandma" by many, and she loved her church family. She is survived by her daughter, Barbara Bell, of Lawton; her son and daughter in law, Donnie and Sharon King, of Arlington, Texas; brother and sister in law, Harold and Kim Moore, of Elgin, OK; her daughter in law, Mickie King, of Lawton; grandchildren, and spouses, Donna and Mike Syrios, Darrell and Nina Bell, Bill and Jeni King, Cynthia and Thomas Lindsey, Deanna and Chuck Gervin, Michelle King and Timothy and Sheri Lederer; her great grandchildren and spouses, Johnny and Carmen Todd, James Todd, Brittney Bell, Amanda and John McBride, Virginia King, Colten and Kayla King, Jessica and Mino Sorensen, Allison and Trent Harris, Tyler Lindsey, Justin Lindsey, Payton Gervin, Adriana Gervin, Bradley and Jessica King, Nickolas King, Megan Lederer, and Haylee Lederer; 17 great great grandchildren; her beloved dog, Molly; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended loved ones. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Fletcher; her son, Billy King; grandson, Brian King; Great granddaughter, Sheryl Todd; brothers, Joe Moore, Malcolm Moore, Lem Moore and Dan Moore; sisters, Beulah Meier and Lottie Moore. Memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist West Building Fund at 7302 NW Cache Road , Lawton, Oklahoma 73505.
