Bio

Alpha Hammond, 90, died Friday, March 24, 2000 at Fair Oaks Nursing Home. She was born August 26, 1909 to the late Rosa Meece Smith and the late Lester B. Smith. She was a retired department store clerk and a member of Russell Springs First Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband Lewis Hammond and one son Robert Hammond. She is survived by one son Joseph G. Hammond and his wife Mayrene of Russell Springs; three daughters Ruth Hopkins, Betty Jasper, and her husband Jerry all of Russell Springs and Ruby Cooper and her husband Kenneth both of Jasper, Tennessee; one brother Doris L. "Smitty" Smith of Russell Springs; three sisters Orpha Roy of Russell Springs, Mildred Wilson of Columbia, and Eleanor Rogers of Tuscon, Arizona; nine grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; and two great great grandchilren. Services were held Sunday, March 26, 2000, 2:00 p.m. at Bernard Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Ronald Wilson officiating. Special music was provided by Glen and Willodean Richardson. Burial was in Salem Cemetary.
