W.A. McIntire, 87, passed away at his home in the Gunsight Community surrounded by his loving family. Interment was at the Gunsight Cemetery. W.A. was born in southern Stephens County to Walter and Maggie McIntire. He attended Parks Camp School and graduated from Breckenridge High School in 1942. He received technical training from Ranger College for veterans after World War II. He married Lenora Grace Lewis on March 2, 1946 in Eastland. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in March of 1996 and enjoyed a second honeymoon to Branson, Missouri. She preceded him in death on July 2, 2003. W.A. was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Army. He was a Technical Staff Sergeant with the 263rd Ordinance Company medium Maintenance in the South Pacific. He was stationed in New Guinea, New Britian, and the Phillipines. He was at Luzon when the Japanese surrendered to General Wainwright. W.A. was a lifetime rancher and machinist. He was employed by Texas Tool and Supply and R.E. Dye Manufacturing. He retired from Dye's in 1985. He enjoyed checking his wells, doing repairs for friends and neighbors in his machine shop, and being with his family. He loved to sit on his balcony and enjoy the view. He liked a good game of dominoes and pitching washers with his grandsons. He rarely missed an activity involving his grandchildren. W.A. was a member of First United Methodist Church of Breckenridge. He was a director of Stephens County Junior Rodeo Association and coached the Sports and Giants baseball teams in the 1960's. He was an elected representative to the Stephens County Farm Service Agency for 15 years and a member of the Southwest Cattle Raisers Association. He served as a director of the Gunsight Cemetery Association and was instrumental in the preservation of the historical Gunsight Church and school building. W.A. was survived by his children; Ronald and Kathy McIntire, Myra and J.R. Hall, Fayla and Phil Taylor, and Monte and Becky McIntire; and his grandchildren, Annie Laurie Lowrance, John and Julie Lowrance, Craig Hall, Stacie and Mike Phineas, Robert Taylor, Aaron Taylor, Andrew Taylor, Miranda and Harold Meeks, Shannon and B.J. Roberts, M.J. McIntire, Betsy and Patrick Helgerson, and Brody and Candace Herrington; great-grandchildren, McKenley and Miley Roberts, Gracie Lowrance, Isabella Phineas, Mattilyn and Maggie Meeks, Ryder and Colton Taylor, Tailor, Kynnley, and Kye Herrington and Karis and Blaze Helgerson. He was also survived by one brother, J. I. McIntire and numerous nieces and nephews. (Melton-Kitchens Funeral Home of Breckenridge served the family)
