Dirette Ashley, the son of Duncan "Dunk" Ashley and Malinda "Linda" Whobrey, was born on March 3, 1888, probably in Grayson County, Kentucky. His paternal grandparents were John F. Ashley and Nancy Newton. He died on April 22, 1948; He was buried in the Decker #1 Cemetery on the south side of Decker School Road in Grayson County, Kentucky.
