Married March 15, 1881 to John Mintun. They had several children. Contributor: diaNEB ------------- From "Aurora News-Register", Aurora, Nebraska dated Friday, May 5, 1944, Page 1: Mrs. John Mintun Is Laid To Rest A Pioneer Stockham Woman, Came to County 70 Years Ago – Rites on Wednesday. Mrs. John Mintun, 82, an early settler of Hamilton county and wife of a former county commissioner, passed away at her home in Stockham, Nebr., Sunday evening at 7 o'clock after several months of failing health. Mrs. Mintun fractured her hip in a fall several months ago and was in the local hospital for an extended time. She returned home some weeks ago. Funeral services were held from the Presbyterian church in Stockham on Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock, with Rev. Ed L. Watson officiating. A quartet composed of Emory Turner, Arlo Yost, Sam Ross and Joe Piggott sang "Nearer My God To Thee," and Mr. Piggott sang "How Beautiful Heaven Must Be." Mrs. Don Zehr was accompanist. Mary Jane Summers was born August 3, 1862, in Lucas county, Ia., and departed this life April 30, 1944, at the age of 81 years, 8 months. She moved with her family to Hamilton county when she was 8 years old. When 18 years of age she was baptized at the Baptist church. On March 15, 1881, she was married to John W. Mintun, on a farm near Hampton, Nebr. This union was blessed with nine children, one son, John Elmer, preceding her in death. She and her husband operated the County Farm faithfully for 16 ½ years, and then moved to a farm ¼ mile west of Stockham, where they lived until moving to Stockham a year ago. She is survived by her husband; eight children, Mrs. Frank Swearingen of Emmett, Ida., Mrs. Andrew Jensen and Mrs. George Cameron of Stockham, Roy of Wendell, Ida., Mrs. Enos Beat of Springfield, Ore., Mrs. Harvey Beat of Jerome, Ida., Charlie R. of Kimberly Ida., and George W. of Kearney; one brother, Charles Hunt of Malvern, Ia.; 29 grandchildren, 32 great grandchildren, and a wide circle of friends. She was a faithful wife and mother and a dear friend to all who knew her. One of the happy occasions in the lives of Mr. and Mrs. Mintun was the observance of their 60th wedding anniversary in 1941 when their children gathered in reunion. Pallbearers were Grover Scherff, Wiley Hartzell, Harry Evans, Ray Gellatly, Gar Housel and Chas. Lefever. Burial in the Stockham cemetery.
