Bio
John Francis O'Rourke was born at Dubuque, Iowa on July 23, 1855. He married Alice Elizabeth Mohatt, April 28, 1879 in Missouri Valley, Iowa. John F. Rourke had a farm at Missouri Valley and all 11 children were born there. In the spring of 1905, John Francis Rourke and his large family moved to Custer County settling in Dale Valley, near Merna. With 11 children Mr. Rourke felt he needed more land. For one year, they rented a farm and then in 1906 John bought a farm of his own. By 1910 the Rourkes were well established. Mr. Rourke had built a large two-story frame house as well as a huge barn. John F. Rourke spent a large part of his time in California where his daughter Rita lived. He died in Ventura, California, January 6, 1932, and is buried in the Dale Cemetery (Custer Co., NE).
