The passing of this venerable man who had attained the age of something over 79 years is deserving of more than ordinary comment. He was born near Dubuque on June 30, 1848. He came with his parents to this part of the state, in early manhood, and has resided here ever since. On October 30th, 1877 he was united in marriage to Catherine B. Martin. In just about two months they would have celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary. To this union ten children were born, three having preceded their Father in death. With their loving mother, the following children survive: Mrs. Albert J. Tamisiea, Mrs. John Walsh, John M., James C., Charles E., Mrs. James V. Walsh and Mrs. Thomas Walsh all of Missouri Valley. He is also survived by three brothers and one sister: William of Dubuque, John F. of Broken Bow, Nebraska, Mary J. Mohatt of Onselmo (Anselmo), Nebraska and James P. of this city. He engaged in farming until a few years ago, when he retired to Missouri Valley. Of a retiring disposition, gentle and quiet in manner, he went about doing good where it was sorely needed, his gifts of charity was never made known. His life was one of fervent piety. He loved his family and neighbors with devoted and tender love, trusted in God and tried to follow his footsteps faithfully. He had the esteem of all who knew him and during his lingering illness of three months and in his dying hour he enjoyed the sympathy and assistance of his immediate family and brothers and only sister. He was prepared for his eternal journey by all means of grace the Holy Mother Church affords. All the holy rites were received in faith hope and love. Funeral services took place Monday at 10 o'clock from St. Patrick's Church, Father J. J. Condon Officiated and at the ceremony Father also officiated. The remains were interred in Mr. Carmel near his little ones to wait the summons of Judgment Day. May he rest in peace. (Missouri Valley Times, Missouri Valley, Harrison Co., Iowa, 08Sep1927, pg1)
