Carl was a Staff Sergeant & Gunner on B-25C #42-64571, 75th Bomber Squadron, 42nd Bomber Group, Medium, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II. He resided in Grayson County, Texas prior to the war. He enlisted in the Army Air Corps on October 25, 1940, prior to the war, in Houston, Texas. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed as a Farm Hand and also as Single, without dependents. B-25C #42-64571 took off, with a crew of 6 and 2 passengers, from Espiritu Santo Island (APO 502), Vanuatu, New Hebrides on a ferrying mission to Carney Field (APO 709), Guadalcanal, Solomon Islands. B-25C #42-64571 was leading a group of 10 P-39's. They all ran into a severe weather front and B-25C #42-64571 never arrived at Carney Field. The P-39's all survived the mission. Carl was declared "Missing In Action" on this mission during the war. He had previously been awarded the Air Medal.
