Bio

Husband of Martha Josephine Heflin and son of Jonathan A. & Elizabeth Caroline (Nall) Phillips. John & Martha were married March 08, 1877 in Iredell, Bosque, Texas. ************ J.C. Phillips came to Texas with his parents when a boy and was converted and joined teh Methodist Church about 60 years ago. He was superintendent of the Sunday School in Iredell at one time and filled the place to the best of his ability. He married Miss Mary J. Heflin on 8 March 1877. To this union were born 12 children, seven of which are still living - Mrs. Edith Terrell, Mrs. Maude Mitchell, Mrs. Agnes Weeks, Mrs. Amy Cunningham, R.J. Lee, Wilburn Phillips. Mr. Phillips was in the hardware business in Iredell and was honest with everyone. Services were held in the Iredell Methodist Church by Rev. McCauley, Rev. Jackson, and Rev. W.T. Jones of Morgan Mill, a former pastor. The stores in Iredell all closed out of respect to his memory. Our of his family, only one is left, Mrs. John Phillips of De Leon who is lovingly called "Aunt Mary". Mr. Phillips was lovingly laid by his son, Herbert. Hico News Review March 30, 1934
