THE PARIS NEWS, 19 Mar 1958: 'Raleigh E. Brecheen, 64, who had retired after 31 years as principal of First Ward School, died Wednesday about 2:30 p.m. in a Paris hospital where he was admitted Tuesday night. He lived on Lamar Road, east of town. Funeral services, Friday at 10 a.m. will be held at Gene Roden chapel, burial to be made in Evergreen Cemetery. Officiating will be Cleon Lyles, Little Rock, Ark., former minister here, and Elmer L'Roy of Lamar Avenue Church of Christ, where Mr. Brecheen was a member and class teacher. Surviving are Mrs. Brecheen, the former Miss Sallie Mae Boaz, whom he married here 22 Mar 1919; a daughter, Mrs. Charles W. Taubert, Jr., Rt.2, Pairs; one grandchild, and these brothers and sisters: W.H. Brecheen, Grand Prairie; Lemuel Brecheen, Dallas; Mrs. Gladys Connor, Garland, and Mrs. O.D. Brazeal, Paris, and a half sister, Mrs. Julia Strickland, Glen Rose. Son of the late William Curtis Brecheen and the former Miss Sarah Elizabeth Wilkerson, Raleigh Ernest Bracheen was born in Atlas community, 4 Jun 1893. He attended Roxton schools and later, North Texas and East Texas State Colleges, and was teaching school when he volunteered for military duty. He taught at Direct, Ambia and Atlas, and was superintendent of Howland schools before coming to Paris. He resigned as Fourth War principal last August, due to failing health, being succeeded by Tommy Duncan. He had been a member of the American Legion and of the Masonic lodge.'
