The Banner-Press (David City, Nebraska) 15 Jul 1926, Thu Page 8 Passing of John Kavan. Linwood, July 12 - John Kavan, residing near Linwood 55 years, died at his home eight miles east of Linwood on Wednesday, July 7. He was in his 77th year. Funeral services were held at the home Friday afternoon, July 9. Rev. Fillipi, of Clarkson, conducted the services. Burial was in the Killian cemetery. Mr. Kavan was born in Czechoslovakia November 25, 1849. He came to the United States in 1869, settling in Iowa, and two years later came to Nebraska, taking up a homestead where he resided until his death. He was married in 1873 to Miss Anna Vopalensky. He is survived by his aged wife, five sons and four daughters and 26 grandchildren, one brother and two sisters. The children all reside in this community. They are Frank, Edward, John, Joseph and Albin Kavan, Mrs. Alois Prochaska, Mrs. Charles Kubik and Mrs. Rudolph Kouma. The brother is James Kavan of Hollywood, Calif., and the sisters are Mrs. Bartle of St. Paul, Neb., and Mrs. J.B. Tichacek of Linwood.
