Name: Duel Lendell Varnell Birth Date: 30 Jun 1936 Birth Place: Rogersville, Alabama Death Date: 3 Mar 2007 Father: John F Varnell Mother: Pearl E Patrick Duel L. Varnell, 70, of Rogersville, died Saturday, March 3, 2007, at his residence. Visitation will be 2-3:30 p.m. Sunday, March 4, from Rogersville Funeral Home. A graveside service will follow at Hurricane Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Zack, Tyler and Tony Davis, Spencer and John Thompson, Rocky Simpson and Jeremy Adams. Mr. Varnell was preceded in death by his parents, Farland and Pearl Varnell; brothers, Billy, Rink and Horace Varnell; sister, Slettie Gibson Varnell; and nephews, Barry Morrison and Larry Thornton. He is survived by his special friend and caregiver, Ruth Parker; sisters, Carolyn (Sherald) Thornton and Linda (Clinton, "Preacher") Flanagan, all of Rogersville; nieces, Teresa Davis, Renee Thompson, Barbara Ullery and Tammy Simpson; nephews, Ronnie and Larry Gibson and Michael and Gary Stroud; seven great-nieces and -nephews. Mr. Varnell was an LCHS graduate, Class of 1955. He lived most of his life in Oakland, Calif., after being discharged from the United States Army. He moved back to Alabama in 1997. The family would like to express thanks to Mid-South Home Health Care for the care they provided for the past six years, a special thanks to Angela Freeman, of Mid-South, and to Wiregrass Hospice. .
