John Oscar's father, William Reuben Worthen, is documented through marriage certificate to have married Tennessee Ann Hamilton on 3 Nov 1881 in Grant County Arkansas, shortly before John Oscar's birth. She subsequently died and William remarried to Rebecca Jane Jones four years later on 5 Mar 1884. The informant on the death certificate is "L E Worthen", which aligns with John Oscar's eldest son Lewis Eugene Worthen. Lewis had a sister named "Tennie C Worthen" and it's likely that she was named, homophonically rather than directly, after William's first wife "Tennessee" Hamilton Worthen, perhaps as a subtle way to honor her memory. Lewis presumably was not fully aware of this while informing on the death. ² The WW II draft registration identifies John Oscar's birth location as "Brant Arkansas". There is no such place. There is a "Bryant" Arkansas in Saline County, near the city of Little Rock. There is also a "Grant" County Arkansas where John Oscar's parents were married. It's likely that the Draft Board registrar misheard "Grant" as "Brant". Additionally, the draft card indicates John Oscar's birth as 21 Nov 1881, shortly after his parents married in Grant County. It's reasonable to conclude that John Oscar was actually born in Grant County Arkansas. Biography by: Great-granddaughter Kimberly L. Green
