Bio
Services for L.E. "Gene" Worthen, a Grand Prairie resident, will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at Bean-Massey-Burge Funeral Home. Burial will follow at 3 p.m. in Martin Springs Cemetery in Sulphur Springs. Mr. Worthen died Friday in Grand Prairie. He was 89. Born Sept. 16, 1908, in Commerce, Texas, Mr. Worthen farmed in Hopkins County for many years before moving to Grand Prairie 47 years ago. He was a retired machinist from L.T.V. who worked as a route salesman for Baker Brothers Cleaners for more than six years following his retirement. He also worked for a number of years for the Grand Prairie Independent School District and First Baptist Church in maintenance. He was a member and served on the Board of Deacons at the Indian Hills Baptist Church in Grand Prairie. Survivors include his wife, Lucille Worthen of Grand Prairie; sons, Winston Worthen of Corpus Christi and Jim Worthen of Grand Prairie; daughter, Barbara Stubblefield of Grand Prairie; brother, J.B. Worthen of Pasadena; sister, Evelyn Bean of Cedar Hill; and five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren Bio from C.R.
