Mildred Maughan Bloomfield passed away peacefully Jan. 10, 2004, in Logan. She was 91 years old. Born in Moscow, Idaho, on Sept. 2, 1912, she was the daughter of John Raymond and Lera (Clark) Maughan. She grew up on the family farm in Lava Hot Springs, Idaho, and was able to attend BYU during the depression, graduating in 1935 with a major in foods and nutrition. Later in 1935, she married Owen Findley Bloomfield. After 63 years of marriage she became a widow when Owen died in 1998. She is survived by her only child, Beverly, and husband, James Francis Maher Jr. of Hyde Park, Utah. She is also survived by six grandchildren and their spouses, Shawna Rae (Wayne) Fuller of Draper, Utah; Mira Juleen (Noel) Ward of Hyde Park; Maury James (Evelyn Nelson) of Fair Oaks, Calif; Amy Lynette (Mark) Greenwood of Linden, Utah; Laun Alan (Carolyn Shupe) of Bountiful, Utah; and Kierran Clay (Carmen Esprilla) of Pullman Wash. She has 23 great-grandchildren. Mildred was second oldest of nine children. She is survived by four brothers and two sisters, Lucile Johnson of Salt Lake City; Ralph of Paul, Idaho; Lowell (Mary) of St. George, Utah; Alice of West Jordan, Utah; Wesley (LuDean) of Logan; and Clyde (Norma), Schenectady, N.Y. She was preceded in death by two younger brothers, Lyle; and Melvin, who is survived by his wife, Catherine Childs Maughan of Bountiful. As one of the older of nine children, and with a mother who was not in good health, Mildred considered it "her privilege" to help raise her younger brothers and sister. This characteristic carried over for her entire life as she taught and loved her own child, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and served as a devoted school teacher for 19 years in Arizona where she and her husband lived for 37 years. After retiring in 1975, they moved to Bountiful where they lived for 23 years. After the death of her husband, she moved to Hyde Park to live with her daughter and son-in-law. Mildred was active in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served throughout her youth and adult years in many branch and ward music, teaching and leadership positions, including Relief Society president. At the same time she also worked in family research, church extraction and temple service. She documented and submitted thousands of names for her ancestors and others. She was a skilled homemaker, loved flowers and music. She was a member of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 16, 2004, at Hyde Park Center Street Church. Viewing hours will be from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 15, 2004, and from 9 to 10:30 a.m. on Friday Jan. 16, both at the same location. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Allen-Cranney Mortuary. Burial will be at 2 p.m. following services at the Bountiful City Cemetery, 2224 S. 200 West, Bountiful. Mildred requests that instead of flowers, contributions be made to LDS Perpetual Education or LDS Missionary Fund.
